Oklahoma State Trooper Shoots Driver During Traffic Stop

In a dramatic incident on Wednesday morning, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper shot and fatally wounded a semi-truck driver during a traffic stop on Interstate 44, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

The trooper fired the fatal shot near a toll booth located east of Stroud, approximately 55 miles to the east of Oklahoma City and halfway between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. OHP spokesperson Sarah Stewart provided these details, although the names of both the trooper and the driver have not been disclosed. Fortunately, no one else was injured during the incident.

The traffic stop occurred on the Turner Turnpike section of the interstate when the trooper pulled over the semi-truck for a traffic violation. Things took a serious turn when an altercation erupted between the trooper and the truck driver, ultimately leading to the trooper opening fire. As of noon on Wednesday, investigators were still at the scene, piecing together the events that unfolded.

Sarah Stewart declined to comment on whether any weapons were discovered on the truck driver, citing the ongoing investigation.
