Woman Shoved into Moving Subway Train, NYPD Hunts Suspect
In a harrowing incident, New York City police are actively seeking a person of interest for allegedly pushing a 30-year-old woman into a moving subway train at the Fifth Avenue/53rd St station in Manhattan. The victim’s life now hangs in the balance, as authorities scramble to locate the suspect.
This distressing event unfolded around noon on Thursday, as a train was departing the station. The assailant, identified as 39-year-old Sabir Jones, allegedly forced the woman, causing her to collide with the moving train and subsequently fall onto the tracks. Fortunately, quick-thinking witnesses and good Samaritans on the platform rushed to her aid, helping her back onto the platform.
The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital due to head trauma and is presently in critical condition following surgery.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chair and CEO John Lieber expressed his concern, stating that the woman is now “fighting for her life.” He underscored the need to address such random attacks on New Yorkers and emphasized the importance of removing individuals from public spaces who require treatment.
Jones, the person of interest, has a history with law enforcement. The incident marks a disturbing trend, as it is the 15th case this year where someone has been pushed onto subway tracks in New York City, down from 22 cases at this point last year.
The New York City Police Department is actively seeking Jones and has released images to aid in their search. The victim’s recovery remains uncertain, and the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by New Yorkers in their daily lives.
