Tragedy Strikes in NYC: Woman Killed, Another Injured in Daylight Shooting

In a shocking incident that unfolded in broad daylight on Thursday in New York City, a gunman opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of a 71-year-old woman and the injury of another. The New York Police Department swiftly responded to the scene near the 500 block of E. 138th Street, where chaos had erupted.

Enriqueta Rivera was found on the ground, shot in the back, while a 34-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her arm. Both victims were rushed to NYC Health and Hospital/Lincoln for medical attention. Tragically, Rivera lost her life, while the other victim remained in stable condition. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A courageous nurse who witnessed the harrowing event recounted her actions, stating, “I heard three shots and I ran because I’m a nurse and I gave the lady CPR. I’m sure she didn’t make it because she was bleeding internally, and she was shot in the lungs.”

Authorities, in their investigation, retrieved at least seven shell casings from the scene. It is believed that neither of the victims was the intended target of this violent act. Assistant Chief of Patrol Borough Bronx Benjamin Gurley suggested that this incident was linked to gang rivalry.

This tragic incident adds to a distressing trend of innocent bystanders falling victim to gun violence. Over the past three days, four individuals have been shot due to gunfire intended for others. Among the victims is an 8-year-old child who was shot in the thigh while disembarking from a school bus.

Bronx County District Attorney Darcel Clark expressed her concerns during a press conference, saying, “This has got to stop. Enough is enough. This is happening in broad daylight. We need help.”

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for measures to curb the rising tide of gun violence in America’s cities.
