Notting Hill Carnival Neighbor Upset Over Garden Misuse
Living beside the vibrant Notting Hill Carnival, a local resident has expressed his frustration at unruly behavior that turned his garden into a public restroom. The homeowner, aged 35 and preferring anonymity, took his family on vacation to avoid the annual event in West London. In anticipation of the festivities, he secured his home with locks, gates, window bars, and CCTV cameras.
Despite bracing for some mischief, the homeowner was shocked by what unfolded. While away in Spain, his family watched disturbing scenes on their CCTV footage, showing carnival-goers relieving themselves in their front yard. The situation worsened as revelers boldly used the gated wall as a toilet and even consumed nitrous oxide on the property.
Speaking to MailOnline, the resident expressed his dismay, saying, “We travel every year to avoid carnival as it’s a headache for our family. Now, the end of our holiday has been ruined knowing we will be traveling back to our home which has been used as a toilet.” He expressed his disgust at such behavior and shared his concern about the disrespectful actions witnessed.
Having bought the property for £295,000 in 2006, the homeowner was irate that his family now had to bear the cost of cleaning and disinfecting the affected areas. After the event concluded, a substantial 25 London buses’ worth of rubbish was cleared from the carnival site.
This year’s Notting Hill Carnival was marked by incidents, including eight stabbings during the event. While overall described as “positive” and “good-natured” by the police, it was marred by instances of serious violence. Over the two days of the carnival, 275 arrests were made, with 165 occurring on the second day for various offenses.
The carnival, celebrating Caribbean culture and history, saw thousands of participants in colorful costumes and feathered headdresses parading through the streets. Floats, drummers, mas bands, and stilt walkers added to the festive atmosphere. Food stalls offered favorites like jerk chicken, accompanied by a mix of music genres played on sound systems. Celebrities like Lily Allen, Idris Elba, and Nick Grimshaw were also seen enjoying the festivities.
Notably, despite some disturbances, the Notting Hill Carnival remained largely spirited and cheerful, with performers showcasing their talents and colorful costumes throughout the event.
