EXCLUSIVE: Court Clerk Faces Jury Tampering Allegations

Rebecca “Becky” Hill, a court clerk, was spotted for the first time since facing explosive accusations of tampering with jurors to secure a book deal, as claimed by Alex Murdaugh’s lawyers.

Hill, aged 55, was seen crossing East Washington Street in Walterboro, South Carolina, at approximately 10 a.m. As a photographer inquired about her involvement in jury tampering, Hill briefly glanced in their direction and smirked. She carried a stack of papers, her cellphone, and a drink as she accessed the court building through a back gate.

The Center of a Legal Storm

Rebecca “Becky” Hill, Colleton County Court Clerk, is now at the center of a motion for a retrial in the Alex Murdaugh double-murder case.

Serious Accusations

In a motion for a new trial, defense attorneys Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian accused Hill of advising jurors not to believe Murdaugh’s testimony, pressuring them to reach a “quick guilty verdict,” and misleading the trial judge in an attempt to remove a sympathetic defense panelist. According to the filing, Hill’s actions were motivated by her desire for a book deal and media appearances.

Based on Juror Interviews

The allegations stem from interviews with three jurors who came forward following the release of Hill’s memoir, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders,” on August 1.

A Bid for Another Chance

Despite being sentenced to two life terms for the murders of his wife and son, Alex Murdaugh, who maintains his innocence, is seeking another chance in the courtroom due to Hill’s alleged misconduct.

Recent Developments

The motion was filed with the South Carolina Court of Appeals less than a week after Fox Nation aired “The Fall of the House of Murdaugh,” a documentary in which Hill detailed her role in the trial.

Co-Author Denies Financial Motive

Neil Gordon, Hill’s co-author on the courtroom memoir, stated that there was no financial windfall from their book. Both authors contributed $15,000 to self-publish it, viewing it as an interesting story to tell.

Legal Representation

Rebecca Hill has retained attorneys Will Lewis and Justin Bamberg to represent her in the jury tampering claims. Bamberg, who was a frequent spectator at Murdaugh’s murder trial, previously represented several victims of his financial crimes. Lewis, a former federal prosecutor, has joined the legal team as well.

These developments continue to unfold, shaping the ongoing saga surrounding the Alex Murdaugh case.
