Florida High School Brawl Leads to Arrest of 11 Students
In a dramatic scene at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Florida, 11 high school students found themselves in handcuffs as deputies intervened to break up a large fight on Monday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m., chaos erupted in the school’s hallway, prompting the response of two school resource officers. The officers arrived to find a significant number of students gathered around the ongoing altercation.
One incident involved a 14-year-old female student who, in an attempt to attack another student, pushed School Resource Deputy King. This student was subsequently arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, disruption of a school function, and felony resistance of a law enforcement officer with violence.
A 17-year-old male student also joined the fray. He charged at school staff, swinging his arms and reportedly punched a staff member in the shoulder. Deputies quickly detained and handcuffed him, initially charging him with disorderly conduct and felony battery on a school official.
All the students involved in this altercation are minors; thus, Fox News Digital is withholding their identities.
In total, three students were arrested at the high school. An additional eight students faced arrest after affidavits were filed with the state attorney’s office, recommending misdemeanor charges such as breach of peace and disturbance of a school function.
Amidst the chaos, a school resource deputy can be heard urging onlookers to “go to class!”
Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly condemned the lack of respect demonstrated by the students, emphasizing the importance of teaching kids to respect teachers, staff, and deputies and to resolve disagreements without resorting to violence. The sheriff reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for violence in schools, warning that such behavior would result in arrest.
Flagler Schools Superintendent LaShakia Moore echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated. She encouraged parents and guardians to use the incident as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of making good choices and striving for success in life.
The incident at Matanzas High School serves as a reminder that fostering a positive school culture and promoting respectful behavior is crucial for the well-being of all students.
