Navy Veteran Survives Grizzly Bear Attack
In a harrowing encounter with nature’s fury, Navy veteran Rudy Noorlander faced off against a colossal grizzly bear on a hunting trip in Montana. The incident unfolded near the Yellow Mule Trail, close to Big Sky, a popular resort area in Montana. Noorlander had rented out some all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to a group of hunters who had successfully shot a deer but lost track of it. Showing extraordinary kindness, Noorlander decided to aid them in their search.
As he followed a trail he believed led to the wounded deer, Noorlander came face to face with an adult grizzly bear. His instincts kicked in, and he tried to scare the bear away with his firearm. However, fate took an unexpected turn as a different, more aggressive 10-foot-tall bear pounced on him.

In a desperate bid to protect himself, Noorlander attempted to fire at the massive bear, but his weapon misfired. With no time to retrieve his bear spray, he resorted to using his bare fists to fend off the colossal creature. Despite throwing punches to deter the bear, it overpowered him.
The grizzly left Noorlander with deep scratches on his chest, bite wounds on his limbs, and, shockingly, tore off his lower jaw. In a surreal and terrifying moment, Noorlander described it as “the most disgusting French kiss” before the bear’s devastating attack.

Remarkably resilient, Noorlander exhibited extraordinary strength by staying conscious despite his ordeal, pain, and significant blood loss.
Road to Recovery
After an initial surgery at Bozeman Deaconess, where doctors assessed his injuries and stabilized him, Noorlander was transported to the University of Utah Hospital. At present, he is in critical but stable condition, battling to recover from the traumatic encounter.

To cover the extensive medical bills incurred during his treatment, Noorlander’s family set up a GoFundMe page. Rudy Noorlander is a Navy veteran with VA insurance, but the costs of surgeries and hospitalization necessitate additional financial assistance. The fundraiser has already garnered $16,410 towards its $25,000 goal, thanks to the generosity of well-wishers and supporters.
