A Michigan teacher, struck in the back of the head by a chair thrown by a student in a recent viral video, is now back at work. Meanwhile, the student responsible for the incident is facing felony charges.
The incident took place at Southwestern Classical Academy, a part of Flint Community Schools, and involved a physical altercation between two students. In the viral video, two teen girls can be seen shouting at each other with the teacher attempting to de-escalate the situation. As tensions rise, one of the girls, identified as a 15-year-old, picks up a chair and hurls it at the teacher, striking her head.
The video ends with students reacting verbally to the teacher’s injury and some desks being toppled over.
The school’s resource officer stepped in to break up the fight and found the injured teacher on the floor with head injuries, according to Flint Police Chief Terence Green.
The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office has filed two felony assault charges against the unidentified student who threw the chair.
In a statement released by Superintendent Kevelin Jones, the district announced that the teacher had been released from the hospital on the same day as the incident and is now in good health. The statement also mentioned that the teacher had chosen to return to work and would be welcomed back by both scholars and staff, who consider her a hero.
The statement emphasized that the student involved would be held accountable according to the law and the Flint Community Schools Student Code of Conduct.
For further information, Fox News Digital attempted to contact the district’s superintendent, but there was no immediate response.
