Detroit Man Sentenced to Prison for Gun-Related Offenses
A young man from Plymouth, Michigan, has been handed a one-year prison sentence following his involvement in gun-related crimes. Timothy Teagan, aged 23, concealed his chronic marijuana use when applying to purchase a firearm and was found to possess both a gun and ammunition while being a drug user.
Teagan, associated with the far-right “Boogaloo Boys” group, was not charged with any terrorism-related offenses. His sentencing comes after he was arrested just before the 2022 election and found to be linked to an anti-government organization.
At various rallies, Teagan appeared donning a Hawaiian shirt and carrying an AR-style rifle, a choice of attire favored by the Boogaloo Boys—a group that has gained attention for its anticipation of a potential civil war within the United States.
Although Teagan did not face charges related to terrorism, he did plead guilty to concealing his marijuana use during the process of purchasing a firearm. Additionally, he was found in possession of a gun and ammunition despite his drug use, both of which are federal crimes.
U.S. District Judge Sean Cox presided over the case and sentenced Teagan to a one-year prison term. The time he has spent in custody since his arrest in November of the previous year will be taken into account.
Teagan’s affiliation with the Boogaloo Boys movement gained attention when he was seen standing outside the state capitol in Lansing, Michigan, carrying his rifle. However, his defense attorney, Todd Shanker, stated that Teagan never engaged in violent actions with the group and had not raised his rifle aggressively.
Shanker also revealed that Teagan is contemplating joining the Libertarian Party to engage in legitimate political activities and address social concerns. Additionally, while in jail, Teagan participated in substance abuse education programs.
Timothy Teagan’s initial arrest occurred when local law enforcement accused him of assaulting his father. Subsequent searches of his residence by FBI agents revealed the presence of body armor, Boogaloo flags, and gas masks.
During an interview with documentarian Ford Fischer following the search, Teagan mentioned that he was questioned about any potential plans for violence during the election and whether he intended to go armed to polling places. He denied any involvement in violent plans.
