Megan Thee Stallion Gets Green Light to Promote Debut Film
Megan Thee Stallion, the celebrated artist, has received the green light to promote her debut film, “D–S: THE MUSICAL,” which, we must say, isn’t exactly suitable for your grandma’s movie night.
Initially, Megan couldn’t promote the film when it premiered on September 7 at the Toronto Film Festival due to an ongoing actors’ strike. But now, SAG-AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) has officially given her the thumbs up.
In an Instagram post on September 12, the three-time Grammy winner joyously shared the news with her fans, known as “Hotties,” along with the movie’s trailer. She announced, “Y’all are not ready for this one in theaters on September 29.”
In the comical film clip, Megan plays a boss in a sales office, and her employees include a pair of male twins. Their mission? To reunite their separated parents, played by Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally. However, things take a wild turn when Lane’s character, Harris, openly declares, “I’m gay. Queer as a three-dollar bill and just as thin.”
Megan rocks stylish black and white business suits as she bosses around the office and spices things up with her rap skills, liberally sprinkled with a few choice words.
The clip wraps up with Megan, as Gloria, leading a group of men crawling on their knees attached to dog leashes.
In 2020, this 28-year-old rapper made her acting debut on “Good Girls.” Last year, she appeared as herself in the TV shows “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” and “P-Valley.”
Also in 2022, Megan signed a production deal with Netflix to create and executive produce a new series for the streaming platform. She’s got several exciting projects in the pipeline.
Now, let’s switch gears for a moment.
Taylor Swift and Cardi B to Rock the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards
Taylor Swift and Cardi B are set to steal the show at the 40th annual MTV Video Music Awards. This event is going down at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on September 12.
Swift, 33, is leading the pack with the most chances to take home some trophies. She’s not alone in this, though.
The dynamic duo will grace the stage together to perform their latest hit, “Bongos,” which they dropped on September 8. Their previous collaboration, “W.A.P,” racked up five VMA nominations, including Song of the Year and Video of the Year.
“Bongos” is quite the visual treat, featuring bikinis, booties, and a subtle nod to Beyoncé, according to some eagle-eyed fans.
Viewers noticed that the luxurious mansion in the video is the same one Beyoncé used in her “Mood 4 EVA” visual. One fan excitedly pointed it out, while another said, “Come on, Black Is King Mansion.”
Some also drew parallels between Meg and Cardi’s beach scene and Beyoncé’s performance of “Standing On The Sun,” complete with flowing dresses and lots of skin. “Very standing on the ☀️ inspired,” one fan tweeted. “Queen recognized Queen!” another fan exclaimed, praising the video for its “colorful realness like Beyoncé.”
And there you have it, some pop culture updates for your day!
Hollywood Strikes Hit Pause, but “Bongos” Keeps the Beat Going
The world of entertainment hit a speed bump with dual strikes by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA. These strikes brought almost every production to a standstill, except for a select few with special approval to keep the cameras rolling.
The trouble began in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America went on strike after a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
Amid this backdrop, “Bongos” emerges as Megan’s first release of the year, while Cardi B has already dropped four major singles in 2023. Will Cardi bless us with her sophomore album before the year ends? That’s the million-dollar question!
