Bull Takes Unusual Shotgun Ride During Nebraska Traffic Stop
In an unexpected turn of events, police in eastern Nebraska conducted a rather unusual traffic stop that left many surprised. The incident unfolded on a Wednesday morning when Norfolk Police Division responded to a call reporting a man driving on Interstate 274 with an unusual passenger – a massive bull. The bull, named Howdy Doody, had taken a seat in the front of the car, making the situation quite remarkable.
The Norfolk Police Division received a call about a car traveling into town with an animal on board. Initially, officers thought it might be a small calf that could fit comfortably inside the vehicle. However, what they discovered was far from their expectations. Lee Meyer of Neligh was behind the wheel, and alongside him sat the Watusi bull, Howdy Doody.
Remarkably, this breed of bull can weigh up to a hefty 1,600 pounds, as reported by The Beef Site. To accommodate the bull’s unusual presence, parts of the car’s body and windshield had to be removed. A platform was also installed in the passenger area to allow the bull to fit into the vehicle.
Despite the unexpected situation, the police officer chose to handle the matter with a warning. Captain Chad Reiman of the Norfolk Police Division explained that while there were citable issues, they opted to give Meyer a warning. They requested him to take the bull back home and leave the city. The encounter was captured on video, revealing a sign attached to the car’s side that proudly proclaimed it as “Nebraska’s BIG RODEO Parade Best Car Entry.”
In the video footage, it’s apparent that the bull had quite an effect on the car’s balance, causing the side carrying the bull to be lower to the ground. Additionally, a rather peculiar detail emerged as the bull seemed to have left its mark on the back windshield of the car.
As Meyer engaged with the police officer during the traffic stop, onlookers from a nearby building watched the unusual spectacle unfold. The exact purpose or destination of the bull’s journey remains uncertain.
Captain Reiman explained that the traffic stop was prompted by the need to address the traffic violations associated with the situation. The officers recognized the unique circumstances and acted accordingly.
In the end, this unexpected and amusing incident involving a bull taking a shotgun ride left many in eastern Nebraska surprised and amused. While the circumstances were unusual, the police officers handled the situation with a measured approach, allowing the bull to return to its home after a short and unexpected adventure.
