More Charges Filed Against Man Accused of Child Sexual Assault at Illegal Day Care

In a troubling development, Maryland authorities have added additional charges against a man accused of sexually assaulting children at an unlicensed day care facility. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting renewed concerns about child safety.

Roberto Medina, 57, Faces Serious Accusations

Roberto Medina, aged 57, is now facing a multitude of sex crime charges, including first-degree rape, second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, and second-degree assault. These charges have been brought against him in connection with alleged sexual assaults that occurred at an unlicensed day care in Annapolis spanning from 2005 to 2015.

Disturbing Allegations Emerge

Court documents obtained by FOX 5 Washington, D.C., shed light on the distressing nature of the allegations. The first victim, who came forward in March 2019, reported that she was just 5 years old when Medina assaulted her. According to her account, he would lock them in a room and commit the acts on multiple occasions. Furthermore, the victim disclosed that Medina exposed her to explicit content on his cellphone.

Multiple Victims Speak Out

A second victim, a 14-year-old, approached detectives in July with allegations that she had been assaulted by Medina at the age of six. It was during her time at the same day care facility. Meanwhile, a third victim, who was eight years old in 2005, recently came forward in August, stating that she too had suffered abuse at the hands of the suspect. She revealed that these incidents occurred on a daily basis during her year-long stay at the facility.

Operator of Day Care Unaware of Alleged Crimes

The day care facility, reportedly operated by Medina’s wife, known as Betty, had been providing childcare services for approximately 16 years, from 2003 to 2019. The Annapolis Police Department has clarified that there is no evidence to suggest that Betty was aware of the alleged sex crimes taking place at the facility.

Community Urged to Share Information

In light of these deeply concerning allegations, the Annapolis Police Department is urging anyone with information related to Roberto Medina or Betty’s day care to contact Detective Nancy Moore at 410-693-3635. It is crucial that individuals come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation to ensure the safety of children in our community.
