Man Sets Newspapers Ablaze in NYC Subway, Fleeing Before Authorities Arrive

A startling incident unfolded in the New York City subway system when an unidentified man ignited newspapers and threw them onto the platform, narrowly missing a group of riders, many of whom appeared to be teenagers. The incident, captured on video, occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Monday within the 33rd Street subway station close to Park Avenue in Manhattan.

The video reveals a sizeable cluster of individuals, seemingly students donning backpacks, standing on the platform while chaos erupts. Amidst the commotion, a bundle of newspapers catches fire, sizzling at their feet.

As the person recording the scene moves closer to the turnstiles, the unidentified man, casually puffing on a cigar, sets more newspaper pages alight. He then flings them in the direction of the waiting riders on the platform.

Despite the swift response of police officers, the man had vanished by the time they arrived at the scene. The NYPD confirmed that no injuries were reported from the incident. The subway riders, mostly students with backpacks, were visibly agitated as the man tossed the flaming papers onto the platform.

The individual who posted the video on social media appealed to the public to aid in identifying the perpetrator. The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
