Teen Pleads Guilty to Murder in School Van Shooting

Eugene Watson, the 19-year-old in question, stood before the Allegheny County Court and admitted his guilt. He didn’t stop at third-degree murder; he also accepted responsibility for criminal conspiracy and two firearms charges connected to the same incident. The victim in this sad tale was Marquis Campbell, a 15-year-old student.
The Fateful Day
It was in January 2022 when this heartbreak occurred. Watson, merely 17 at the time, was charged as an adult, and he will face his sentencing on January 25. His attorney stayed tight-lipped about the case.
Prosecutor’s Decision
Meanwhile, prosecutors made a notable move by withdrawing charges against another teenager. This individual had been previously found delinquent in juvenile court for one conspiracy count.
The Tragic Scene
The setting for this unfortunate incident was the Oliver Citywide Academy, a special education center located on Pittsburgh’s North Side. The school caters to students from grades three through twelve. On that fateful day, classes had just let out, and students were inside a school van. Two people approached the vehicle and opened fire. Tragically, Marquis Campbell was struck, and despite efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.

Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Ramaley revealed that Campbell had been involved in several arguments with other youths in the months leading up to the shooting. This revelation adds another layer of sadness to this heartrending tale.
