Man, 60, arrested over XL bully dog attack on girl, 11, in Birmingham

Man Arrested After XL Bully Dog Attack on 11-Year-Old Girl

Birmingham, UK – In a shocking incident that unfolded in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, a man has been apprehended following an aggressive encounter involving an XL bully dog and an 11-year-old girl named Ana Paun.

Ana Paun was accompanied by her older sister, Geneza, 18, as they were out shopping in Birmingham when the large dog suddenly lunged towards Ana, instigating a harrowing ordeal.

In a distressing video capturing the incident, Ana can be seen pinned to the ground by the unleashed dog, which had forcibly broken free from its collar. The attack inflicted injuries to Ana’s shoulder and arm. The footage, recorded last Saturday, also depicts two brave men rushing in to rescue Ana, only to become victims of the dog’s aggression themselves.

The West Midlands Police released a statement stating, “A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control. He has been released on bail with conditions, pending further investigation.” The police further informed the public that the dog is currently under secure confinement.

Monica, the girl’s mother, expressed her shock at the incident and stressed the need to separate such dogs from people. Ana, demonstrating remarkable bravery, called for a ban on the specific dog breed responsible for the attack, stating, “I was terrified at the time. The dog stared at me, jumped on my arm, and bit me. It was really scary. I screamed, and he released my arm only to bite my shoulder. I’m feeling somewhat better now. I traveled in the ambulance. I want that dog to be gone, to not exist. I believe all dogs, especially bulldogs, should be prohibited.”

Councillor Nicky Brennan, responsible for community safety and equalities in the city, revealed that she had received information that the decision had been made to euthanize the dog, following a briefing from the West Midlands Police community safety team on Tuesday. She expressed regret over this outcome, saying, “It’s unfortunate, but there appears to be no other alternative.”

Home Secretary Suella Braverman has also taken notice of the incident, stating that she has requested “urgent advice” regarding the potential prohibition of this breed of dog. She argued that this breed poses a “clear and lethal danger” to children, citing its connection to nine fatalities, including three children, since 2021.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and measures to ensure public safety in such situations.
