Large Sinkhole Emerges in San Francisco After Water Main Break

A significant sinkhole unexpectedly appeared at the intersection of Fillmore and Green streets in San Francisco on Monday, following the rupture of a water main.

Crews were swiftly dispatched to the scene to address the situation, as reported by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission on social media.

The incident occurred when a 16-inch water main broke in the early hours of the morning. This rupture also affected an 8-inch water main nearby, creating a challenging situation for authorities.

To ensure safety, experts from Pacific Gas and Electric were called in to assist in removing the slab covering the gas line.

As of 2:30 p.m. local time, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission confirmed that they had successfully repaired the damaged 8-inch water main, restoring normal water service. Crews are still diligently working in the area to repair the main and address the sinkhole.
