Kelly Stafford Reflects on Recent Comments about Husband’s Teammates
Kelly Stafford, known for her candidness, has opened up about her recent comments regarding her husband Matthew Stafford’s rapport with his Los Angeles Rams teammates. During a recent episode of her podcast “The Morning After,” Kelly shared that Matthew, 35, has encountered challenges in connecting with younger players on his team. She revealed that he even had a book printed out with their faces and names to better know his teammates.
Kelly’s comments garnered attention and sparked some reactions from NFL fans. However, in a subsequent interview with Detroit news station Local 4, she expressed regrets about her remarks. She admitted, “I felt pretty bad last week. I put my foot in my mouth pretty good last week.” She acknowledged that her words were probably not the best way to approach the topic of relating to teammates who are significantly younger.
While some took Kelly’s words seriously, Rams coach Sean McVay took a lighthearted perspective. McVay, 37, commented, “I took that as more of a joke at the old man. … He’s done a phenomenal job of leading, connecting with his teammates.” He highlighted Matthew’s dedication to his team and how much he values his teammates’ camaraderie.
This isn’t the first time Kelly has made headlines with her statements. In 2020, she faced criticism for calling Michigan a “dictatorship” due to COVID-19 restrictions. At that time, Matthew was playing for the Detroit Lions. Kelly later apologized for her choice of words and acknowledged the challenges of the pandemic.
Matthew Stafford, currently the Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback, and Kelly met at the University of Georgia. While Matthew is often in the spotlight, Kelly has occasionally found herself in hot water due to her outspoken nature. Despite her missteps, she strives to own up to her mistakes and learn from them.
