In a tragic incident late Tuesday in Olathe, Kansas, a man was found dead in a suburban home after a police officer fired at him. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Dane Laing, who lived in Olathe. It’s not yet clear if the officer’s bullets hit him, according to the Kansas City Star. Sgt. John Moncayo, a spokesperson for the Olathe police, has indicated that more details about Laing’s death are currently unavailable.
The situation unfolded when officers were responding to a report of an assault on Tuesday afternoon. As they were talking to the person who reported the assault, Dane Laing suddenly ran past with a handgun. In the attempt to enter a neighbor’s home, one of the officers fired at Laing.
Moments later, Laing was found dead inside the house. The Johnson County Critical Incident Investigation Team, responsible for reviewing cases involving the use of deadly force, is now investigating the incident.
