Kaitlin Armstrong, Texas yoga instructor charged in ‘love-triangle’ murder, accused of escape attempt

Woman Accused of Fleeing Custody After Doctor’s Appointment

In a surprising turn of events, Kaitlin Armstrong, a woman previously suspected of being involved in the tragic shooting of professional cyclist Anna Moriah ‘Mo’ Wilson, allegedly attempted to escape from authorities as she left a doctor’s appointment on a Wednesday morning. Armstrong had been in custody since last year when she left the country during the initial stages of the investigation into Wilson’s death.

According to Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Drew Knight, Armstrong was at the medical facility for her appointment when she made her escape attempt, accompanied by two corrections officers. A brief foot chase ensued, during which Armstrong, a former high school track star, tried to evade capture for about 10 minutes, but she was ultimately apprehended.

Following her capture, Armstrong was taken to a local hospital for a check-up and has since been returned to the custody of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Kaitlin Armstrong, a 35-year-old former yoga instructor, had been arrested in Costa Rica after a 43-day manhunt related to the shooting death of Wilson on May 11, 2022. During her time in Costa Rica, she reportedly altered her appearance and used a new identity. Her escape attempt has left many baffled, and her defense attorney, Rick Cofer, has not yet commented on the incident.

The tragic incident involving Wilson’s shooting is believed to be linked to a love triangle, as both Wilson and Armstrong had a brief romantic involvement with Colin Strickland, a professional gravel cyclist and Armstrong’s live-in boyfriend. Strickland repeatedly told detectives that he did not believe Armstrong was capable of harming Wilson, emphasizing her kindness and caring nature.

Nonetheless, Armstrong stands accused of fatally shooting Wilson in a bathroom, where she was later discovered by a friend, slumped in a pool of blood. Surveillance footage revealed Armstrong’s presence at the scene, and a handgun matching shell casings found at the site was later seized from Armstrong and Strickland’s residence.

Armstrong’s legal situation took an unexpected turn when, following an initial police questioning, she left the state for New York, eventually fleeing the country. After a prolonged search, she was captured in Costa Rica and extradited to the United States, where she has been held in the Travis County Jail in Austin on a $3.5 million bail.

In addition to her involvement in the Wilson case, Armstrong also faces unrelated allegations of not paying for a $650 Botox procedure at a Westlake spa in 2018.

Before a gag order was imposed on the case, Armstrong’s defense contested prosecutors’ portrayal of her as a “romantic rival” to Wilson, labeling it as “misogynistic and fictitious.”
