Investigation Underway After Infant Found Dead in New Mexico Hospital

HOBBS, New Mexico – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident in which an infant was discovered deceased in a hospital room occupied by a 16-year-old girl. The unsettling discovery took place at Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital, as the teen and her mother sought medical treatment.

Hospital staff notified local law enforcement when they found the lifeless baby inside the hospital restroom. The infant’s body has been transferred to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for a thorough autopsy.

This unfortunate incident marks the second time this year that an infant has been found dead in a New Mexico hospital. In a previous case from May, 19-year-old Alexee Trevizo, hailing from Artesia, faced charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Trevizo had locked herself in a hospital bathroom, giving birth to a baby boy, and subsequently placed the newborn in a bag before leaving the hospital.

The investigation into the recent incident is ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed whether the teenager or her mother will face any charges. Meanwhile, Alexee Trevizo is scheduled to go to trial in August of the coming year.
