Man Fatally Shot by Southern Indiana Police During Investigation

In a late-night incident in Bedford, Southern Indiana, a man lost his life when police were responding to a complaint from a woman who reported harassment and an unsettling situation at a local police station. The authorities have identified the deceased as Daymon A. Hubbard, a 47-year-old resident of Bedford, who succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. The Indiana State Police shared this information on Friday, shedding light on the events that unfolded in the city, approximately 80 miles south of Indianapolis.

It all began when a woman arrived at the Bedford Police Department around 10 p.m. to report a harassment complaint. She informed the officers on duty that a man, later identified as Hubbard, had followed her to the police station and provided a description of his vehicle.

Shortly after receiving this information, a Bedford police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and began to follow it. This eventually led to a pursuit, during which the suspect’s compact SUV collided with a patrol car. It was during this escalating situation, around 10:30 p.m., that three Bedford police officers discharged their firearms. Hubbard sustained gunshot wounds and was subsequently rushed to a Bedford hospital, where he later passed away due to his injuries.

The Indiana State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the fatal shooting, emphasizing that the incident was captured by the officers’ body cameras. Following standard protocol in such cases, the Bedford police chief has announced that the three officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave.
