From Addiction to Fashion Empire: The Inspiring Journey of Mark Leonardo
Loneliness and depression haunted Mark Leonardo during his school days, leading him to conceal his struggles with alcohol.
At the age of 35, Mark, hailing from Takeley, Essex, opened up about his past: “I might have been a professional footballer or a music producer if not for booze. I had ties to academies in Harlow and Cambridge, but I took a wrong turn. I worked as a carpenter for four years and later became a skilled electrician.”
Building two electrical contracting businesses by 2016 and employing a team of 13, life seemed to be on an upward trajectory for Mark. However, beneath the surface, the strain was taking its toll.
In 2019, Mark’s life crumbled due to a toxic mix of alcohol, drugs, and gambling, triggered in part by his wife’s illness after giving birth to their son, Luca.
A Silver Lining in Lockdown
Amid the 2020 COVID lockdown, a spark of inspiration ignited in Mark. He saw an opportunity to blend his lifelong passion for fashion with fitness and boxing. This realization marked a turning point in his life.
“Lockdown forced me to reclaim my life and cut out alcohol,” Mark shared.
Taking cues from his Italian and Spanish heritage, Mark created the luxury fashion brand Lucavi, named after his children Luca and Sienna. This marked the beginning of his journey to create an empire.
Harnessing his renewed energy, Mark drafted a business plan leveraging his experience from past successful ventures. A significant £30,000 in funding followed, and his fashion-focused Instagram gathered a following of 100,000.
Lucavi’s offerings include staples like T-shirts, jackets, and hoodies, with plans to expand into footwear and accessories. Mark’s aim is to infuse his brand with the lively spirit of the 80s, inspired by his Italian great grandfather.
Taking on Fashion Giants
Mark’s ambition doesn’t stop there; he’s set his sights on challenging fashion giants like Gucci and Versace by offering more affordable prices. His creations promise a sense of lightness that uplifts you throughout the day.
Prices for Lucavi pieces will start at £72 for a small logo embroidered tee and go up to £360 for the “flagship” reversible jacket.
With Lucavi established, Mark has big aspirations. He wants to extend a helping hand to those battling mental health issues and collaborate with major environmental organizations to promote sustainability and combat climate change.
Mark’s journey from battling addiction to creating a fashion empire is an inspiring tale of resilience, determination, and the power of transformation.
