Horrifying Attack by XL Bully Dog in Birmingham
In a distressing incident that unfolded in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, an XL Bully dog went on a rampage, attacking an 11-year-old girl and a man as horrified onlookers tried to intervene.
The Incident Unfolds
The shocking incident was captured in a video shared on social media. The video, initially posted on TikTok, shows the dog mauling the young girl’s arm. A brave man in a green tank top managed to pull the dog away from the terrified girl, who sought refuge in a nearby store called Zahir Supermarket, nursing an injured forearm.
For a brief moment, another man held the dog down, but it quickly broke free and targeted a man in a white t-shirt, bum bag, and shorts. As the man attempted to escape, the dog pursued him, leading to a chaotic scene near a Texaco petrol station. The dog sank its teeth into the man’s back until an onlooker intervened, using a shovel to stop the attack.
Police Involvement
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and have spoken to the dog’s owner. Currently, the dog is under secure kennel care while the investigation proceeds. All three victims, the girl, and two men, received medical treatment for their injuries.
Understanding the XL Bully
The XL Bully is a breed that gained recognition from the US United Kennel Club in 2013. Often regarded as a close relative of the American Pit Bull Terrier, these dogs have been crossbred with other breeds, including English Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogge, and American Bulldogs. “XL” denotes the dog’s size category, with heights ranging from 33 to 50 cm and weights from 20 to 60 kg.
Notably, XL Bullies have been involved in a significant number of fatal dog attacks in the UK since 2021. Despite this, there are no legal prohibitions against owning this breed in the UK. Recently, some MPs called for the American Bully XL to be added to the country’s list of banned breeds.
Tragic History
This incident adds to a series of unfortunate dog attacks involving XL Bullies. Previously, a mother sacrificed her arm to save her daughter from an XL Bully attack in Yorkshire, and tragic cases, including the death of a 10-year-old boy and others, have shed light on the dangers posed by these dogs.
As the investigation into this latest incident continues, concerns surrounding XL Bullies persist, prompting discussions about potential regulations and safety measures regarding this breed.
