Homeless Man Arrested in Connection with 5-Year-Old Girl’s Tragic Death
A homeless man from Topeka, Kansas, has been taken into custody in connection with the tragic rape and murder of 5-year-old Zoey Felix, local authorities announced on Tuesday.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when officers responded to a medical call at a Topeka gas station shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, they discovered a fire crew desperately trying to save young Zoey Felix, as detailed in a police news release. Tragically, despite their efforts, Zoey was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of a 25-year-old man as the prime suspect. He was apprehended and booked into jail on Tuesday morning, facing serious allegations of first-degree murder and rape. His bail has been set at a substantial $2 million, and as of now, he does not have legal representation, according to Timothy Phelps, deputy director of the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
While no formal charges have been filed at this point, court records reveal that the authorities are actively pursuing the case.
The news release did mention that the man had some prior acquaintance with Zoey. However, police spokesperson Rosie Nichols declined to provide further information regarding the nature of their connection.
Additionally, Nichols refrained from disclosing any details about the precise cause of Zoey Felix’s tragic passing.
Please note that this is a developing story, and further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
