Landlord Tragically Killed at His Own Pub Ahead of Anniversary Trip
In a heartbreaking incident, a heroic landlord lost his life at his own pub in Maidstone, Kent, the night before his planned anniversary trip with his wife. Matthew Bryant, the victim, was found with stab wounds outside the Hare and Hounds on Monday night.
Emergency services arrived around 6 pm, but despite their efforts, Matthew was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. A woman in her 50s, known to Matthew, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Matthew had gained recognition as a hero in his community after coming to the aid of a patron whose life was in danger. Last year, he provided first aid to a man who had been knocked to the ground by a single punch, preventing a more severe injury.
Tragically, Matthew and his wife, Caroline Bryant, were supposed to embark on a romantic getaway the day after the incident to celebrate their anniversary. Caroline expressed her profound grief, saying, “My heart is broken.”
Tributes have poured in for the couple, with many describing them as the “best landlords” and expressing their condolences. Friends and well-wishers offered their sympathies and shared their fond memories of Matthew.
The police have cordoned off the area as they continue to investigate this tragic incident.
