11-Year-Old Girl Emerges as Sole Survivor in Tragic Seattle House Fire

In a heartbreaking turn of events, an 11-year-old girl named Lulu Ragusa has emerged as the sole survivor of a devastating house fire in Seattle. The fire claimed the lives of her mother, two siblings, and their father, who police believe barricaded the family inside the house and set it ablaze.

Lulu’s daring escape from the inferno involved jumping out of a window and running for help, as recounted by her aunt, Adrea Sloniker, on GoFundMe. Known for her unwavering dedication to her family, Lulu displayed remarkable bravery by risking a 16-foot drop to assist others. She initially believed she could return to save her younger brother and sister after seeking help.

Tragically, her siblings, 4-month-old Valentina Ragusa and 7-year-old Sebastiano “Seby” Ragusa, along with their mother Lana Stewart, 40, and even their pet dog Rosie, all perished in the fire at their residence in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Lana Stewart succumbed to “multiple sharp force injuries,” while the children succumbed to smoke inhalation. All three deaths have been ruled as homicides. In a grim twist, Salvatore Ragusa, the children’s father, also succumbed to smoke inhalation, but his death was deemed a suicide.

A GoFundMe campaign initiated for the family has garnered an outpouring of support, raising $41,981 as of Friday afternoon. The funds will be dedicated to Lulu’s recovery and education, as she will be adopted by a family member.

Sloniker has revealed that her sister Lana and the children endured years of abuse at the hands of their mentally ill father. Salvatore Ragusa, who suffered from schizophrenia, lived in a constant state of paranoia, believing they were under surveillance and that their phones were wiretapped.

Over time, Sal’s mental state deteriorated, escalating from a loving father into someone unrecognizable. His descent into mental instability spun out of control, with him refusing professional help.

Lana Stewart, despite the torment, often succeeded in calming Salvatore’s delusions but at a heavy emotional cost. She knew she needed to leave him, but she had not yet gathered the strength to do so.

Notably, Salvatore had faced charges in 2019 for setting fire to Lana’s apartment and threatening to end his own life.

In a poignant family photo, Lana is seen cradling her infant while her older children play joyfully in the yard with their cherished pet, Rosie.

Lulu Ragusa shared a special bond with Sebastiano, a child who radiated laughter and playfulness. His absence will be profoundly felt, especially by Lulu, who found her greatest joy in his company. Valentina, the youngest of the family, brought a radiant light to their lives from the very beginning. Lulu played an integral role in making her baby sister laugh and even helped her take her first crawling steps.

Despite the immense tragedy that has befallen this family, Lulu’s aunt is confident that she will thrive and live life to the fullest.

In this immensely tragic situation, the indomitable spirit of young Lulu shines through, giving hope amid the darkest of circumstances.
