Girl, 11, drowned during party at water park as inquest told cops took over an hour to find her in swimming area

Tragedy Strikes: Young Girl Dies in Water Park Incident

A young girl’s life was cut short during a party at a water park, as she tragically drowned in a designated swimming area. The incident took place at Liquid Leisure Park in Datchet, Berkshire, last August.

Kyra Hill, just 11 years old, faced distress during her time at the park. Senior coroner Heidi Connor shared the sad news with Kyra’s family today, revealing that a post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of her passing as drowning. The loss is particularly heartbreaking as it occurred a mere two weeks before Kyra’s 12th birthday.

Addressing Kyra’s family, the coroner expressed her deep condolences for the loss and suggested that they allow ongoing investigations to unfold before drawing conclusions.

Kyra’s father, Leonard Hill, and her mother, Heather Parker, attended the hearing at Berkshire Coroner’s Court. They were informed that more about Kyra’s life and experiences would be shared during a comprehensive inquest at a later date, bypassing the distressing evidence that has already been presented.

The proceedings were adjourned while a police investigation is conducted into the incident.

Last year on August 6, emergency responders were called to the park shortly before 4pm. Kyra was discovered in the swimming area after an hour and 15 minutes. Despite being rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved, and she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Following this tragic event, the water park was temporarily closed for several weeks. However, it was granted permission to reopen for certain activities in October.

Kyra’s father has bravely spoken out about his ordeal, comparing the painful memories to a “horror movie.” He recounted the heartbreaking moments, saying, “I’ve replayed the CCTV in my mind every day, every night. It’s like watching a horror movie. I replay my child on a hospital bed every day, every night. I replay my child in the morgue, and touching her cold freezing stiff body with fluids leaking from her nose, every day and every night.”

Kyra’s untimely passing serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance in recreational areas, especially where water is involved.
