Escaped Murder Convict Sighted: Massive Manhunt Underway in Pennsylvania

An escaped murderer, Danelo Souza Cavalcante, has been spotted in a residential neighborhood, setting off intensive efforts to recapture him. The Chester County District Attorney’s Office revealed this breakthrough through a statement on social media over the weekend.

The district attorney’s office shared that Danelo Cavalcante, aged 34 and from Royersford, PA, was seen on a residential surveillance camera at around 12:30 a.m. on September 2, 2023. The sighting occurred in the 1800 block of Lenape Road, about 1.5 miles away from the prison where he escaped from.

Ongoing Search for Escaped Murderer, $10,000 Reward Offered

Following his prison escape on Thursday morning in Pennsylvania, the whereabouts of Danelo Cavalcante remained unknown until this weekend. He was last observed wearing pants, a light-colored t-shirt, and white sneakers. His appearance has not changed – he sports long, black curly hair and carries a backpack. There was also a report of an attempted burglary around 11:30 p.m. in the nearby 1000 block of Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township.

Multiple state and federal law enforcement agencies are joining forces to search the area around the sighting. District Attorney Deb Ryan has urged residents in the vicinity to stay indoors and secure their vehicles. She emphasized that if anyone observes anything suspicious, they should immediately contact the police. Danelo Cavalcante is considered extremely dangerous, and anyone encountering him should not approach him but call 911.

$10,000 Reward and International Connections

Pennsylvania law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service are offering a $10,000 reward in the ongoing search for Cavalcante. He had been convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and sentenced to life in prison. Notably, he is also “wanted for a homicide in Brazil,” his home country, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Cavalcante managed to escape from the Chester County Prison and is believed to be heading south.

Immigration officials have revealed that while it’s unclear when he entered the U.S., he was not properly inspected or admitted by immigration authorities. After his arrest in the U.S., ICE became aware of his unlawful presence, leading to an ICE detainer being lodged against him. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations are collaborating with local, state, and federal partners in the search for Danelo Cavalcante.

This ongoing manhunt has captured the attention of law enforcement and the public alike, as efforts intensify to bring the escaped murderer to justice.
