Florida women drunkenly tossed baby in air ‘like a toy’ at bar, charged with child abuse, police say

Two Women Accused of Drunkenly Mishandling Baby at Florida Bar, Resulting in Broken Arm

In a concerning incident at a Daytona Beach bar, two young women, Sierrah Newell, 20, and Brianna Lafoe, 19, have found themselves in legal trouble after allegedly mishandling a baby while under the influence of alcohol. The incident unfolded at Coyote Ugly bar, where the two individuals reportedly tossed the child “like a toy,” ultimately causing a broken arm, as per authorities.

Both Newell and Lafoe now face child abuse charges in connection with the incident that occurred last Thursday, as stated in an arrest affidavit. Initial police responses were triggered by reports of the two women engaging in a disturbing act: throwing the child back and forth, with the baby at times reaching a height of four feet above the ground and even being turned upside down.

The situation escalated further when Newell, who was on crutches, allegedly made threats towards bystanders. A witness who approached Lafoe also faced threats. Shockingly, Lafoe then took matters to an even more dangerous level by flipping the baby, grabbing the child’s ankles, and turning him upside down.

Upon reviewing a video recorded by a witness, officers witnessed Newell seated on the ground while Lafoe swung the baby dangerously close to hard concrete. The affidavit highlights that Lafoe even struck the woman who initially recorded the incident on her right arm with an open hand.

Notably, both Lafoe and Newell were under the legal drinking age and were intoxicated during this incident. The child was promptly taken to a hospital and was found to have red marks on his back, as well as a mark on X-rays that indicated a broken arm.

The hospital is awaiting the assessment of a specialist to determine the full extent of the child’s injuries. While the report does not disclose the identity of the baby’s parents, it does mention that Newell’s mother was present at the scene during the incident.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Children and Families is conducting a background check to determine whether Newell’s mother is eligible to take custody of the child. In addition to the child abuse charge, Lafoe also faces a battery charge in connection with this incident.
