Florida father charged in connection with brutal murder of his teenage son: ‘Evil, evil man’

Florida Father Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Teenage Son with Power Tool

A shocking incident unfolded in Polk County, Florida, as a father was apprehended for allegedly killing his teenage son using an angle grinder, a heavy-duty saw. The suspect, Stephan Thomas Rodda, 37, was taken into custody after attempting to flee the scene in Lake Wales.

Tragic Victim Identified

The victim, 16-year-old Stephen Lee Rodda, was an 11th-grade student at Frostproof High School. He was staying with his 67-year-old grandfather, Thomas Rodda, at their mobile home while his grandmother was in rehab. Thomas returned home one morning to a horrifying discovery.

Chilling Encounter

Stephan allegedly warned his grandfather not to enter, stating, “I killed someone. You may need to call the police.” According to Sheriff Grady Judd, such bizarre comments were not uncommon from the suspect. Inside, Thomas found his grandson’s lifeless body in the dining room area.

Horrific Tool Used

A preliminary investigation revealed that Stephan used an angle grinder, a power tool designed for cutting, grinding, and polishing, to commit the unthinkable act. Sheriff Judd expressed his shock at the senseless tragedy, deeming the suspect “worthless” and “evil.”

Motive Remains a Mystery

The motive behind this tragic murder is still under investigation. Stephan Thomas Rodda had a history of criminal activity and had recently moved to Lake Wales from various states. An outstanding warrant from South Carolina was noted, but due to its minor nature, extradition was not pursued.

Troubled Past

The suspect also had a history of using methamphetamine dating back to high school and had experienced prior psychotic episodes. Sheriff Judd conveyed his condolences to the family and emphasized the loss of a promising young man. Stephan Thomas Rodda is now in custody, facing serious charges with the possibility of life in prison.
