3-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Herself in Florida Home
In a startling incident that unfolded in Goulds, Florida, a home security camera captured the harrowing moment a 3-year-old child managed to access a loaded firearm, resulting in a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident took place as a family member was engrossed in a football game on his laptop.
The security footage from the home shows the toddler approaching a couch, propping herself up, and reaching for the loaded handgun. With an inadvertent pull of the trigger, the firearm discharged, causing the child harm.
Authorities from Miami-Dade County disclosed that the child’s 23-year-old relative, Orlando Young, was entrusted with supervising the toddler at the time of the incident. However, his attention was entirely absorbed by the football match.
On the video, Young can be seen pacing the living room, passionately celebrating the game while clutching his laptop. Regrettably, he remained oblivious to the child’s discovery of the loaded firearm.
Following the accidental discharge of the handgun, a state of panic ensued as Young hastily rushed to assess the child’s condition. Others in the vicinity also reacted swiftly to the incident.
In the aftermath of the incident, family members promptly transported the injured toddler to a hospital, where she received medical attention for her injuries.
Upon conducting a thorough investigation, authorities subsequently arrested and charged Orlando Young with child neglect leading to severe bodily harm.
The Department of Children and Families has been notified of the incident, and further legal actions are anticipated.
