Stranger Things: A Journey’s End
After six thrilling years of supernatural mysteries, Stranger Things is gearing up for its grand finale with a fifth and ultimate season.
The excitement reached its peak as fans awaited the premiere of season 4. Then, creators Matt and Ross Duffer made a big announcement: the show would bid farewell after one more chapter set in the enigmatic town of Hawkins, Indiana.
In a heartfelt letter shared in February 2022, the Duffer Brothers revealed their long-term plan. “Seven years ago, we mapped out the entire story for Stranger Things,” they disclosed. “Initially, we thought it would wrap up in four to five seasons. However, the tale grew too vast for just four seasons. But, as you’ll soon witness, we’re speeding toward our grand conclusion. Season 4 is the second-to-last chapter, with season 5 serving as the finale.”
Later that same year, the Duffer Brothers elaborated on their vision for the show’s concluding episodes and talked about the season 4 episode split.
“The initial plan was to release all the episodes at once, just like before. However, as we started working on the episodes, we realized that the season had become too enormous to drop in one go. With almost 13 hours of content, it felt more like two seasons combined,” they explained to Variety in May 2022, following the release of Volume 1, which included the first seven episodes. “Episode 7 is on par with any season finale we’ve done, so it made sense to split the season there. Episode 7 effectively marks the end of the second act, and we believe the final act has enough substance to make up Volume 2.”
