The Crown Returns for a Final Season
Get ready for more royal drama! The Crown is set to make a comeback for one last season. And guess what? Filming for season 6 began even before season 5 hit our screens.
The Passing of Queen Elizabeth II
In the summer of 2022, as filming for season 6 was in full swing, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. Shortly after her passing in September 2022, her eldest son, King Charles III, stepped up to take the throne.
A Tribute to the Late Monarch
Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown, described the series as a “love letter” to the late Queen Elizabeth. He kept it short, saying there was nothing more to add at the moment, just silence and respect. Production for season 6 briefly paused as a mark of respect for the departed queen.
Controversy Surrounding the Show
Even before season 5 was released, season 6 was making headlines. Judi Dench didn’t hold back her thoughts, slamming the show for being “completely inaccurate.” She called on Netflix to include a disclaimer with the series.
Netflix Responds
In response to the criticism, Netflix added a disclaimer to the show’s official website and the season 5 trailer. However, not everyone agreed with this move. Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, thought it was “ridiculous” to do so. He pointed out that The Crown is a drama, not a documentary, and not everything in it will be authentic.
