Elderly Indiana couple traveling in golf cart die after colliding with car along rural road

Elderly Indiana Couple Tragically Killed in Golf Cart Collision

In a tragic incident on a rural Indiana road, an elderly couple lost their lives when their golf cart was struck by a car. The incident took place on a Sunday evening and is currently under investigation by authorities.

Preliminary findings suggest that a Chevrolet Impala, traveling north along a Howard County road around 6 p.m., collided with a northbound golf cart carrying the elderly Kokomo couple. Richard L. Calloway, 83, who was behind the wheel of the golf cart, tragically lost his life at the crash site, just east of Kokomo. His wife, Elaine M. Calloway, 75, succumbed to her injuries later at a hospital, according to Capt. Jordan Buckley of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Impala, a 20-year-old Kempton man, was transported to a hospital for a mandatory blood draw, as Indiana law mandates such measures following serious or fatal motor vehicle accidents.

As the investigation continues, officials are patiently awaiting autopsy results, toxicology reports, and a crash reconstruction analysis before determining whether the Impala’s driver might face charges in connection with this heartbreaking incident.

Kokomo, the location of this unfortunate event, is situated approximately 64 miles to the north of Indianapolis.
