Dog thrown out of SUV in front of animal shelter found days later, charges filed

Dog Abandoned Outside North Carolina Animal Shelter Leads to Charges

In a distressing incident, a North Carolina man now faces charges after allegedly throwing a helpless puppy out of an SUV right in front of an animal shelter. The incident was captured on video, sparking outrage and concern.

The incident occurred on September 8, as recounted by PAWS Bryson City on their Facebook page. Despite the shelter’s open gates, the man opted for a heartless act, flinging a puppy out of the vehicle window. A video clearly shows the man opening and shutting the passenger door, then cruelly tossing the puppy to the ground.

PAWS Bryson City immediately sought assistance from the public to identify the man and locate the abandoned puppy.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old David Paul George Jr., as revealed by Bryson City police and surveillance footage. The footage shows George pointing down at the ground before committing the heartless act.

The animal shelter expressed their dismay, saying, “We wish the person that did this would have done the right thing and drove on through the gates so we could assist them rather than slinging this poor innocent dog out the window.”

Days later, the abandoned puppy, affectionately named “Apollo,” was found. Sadly, he was in poor condition, suffering from malnourishment, flea infestation, parasites, small abrasions, and two small fractures.

Despite the ordeal, Apollo’s spirit remained resilient. A subsequent Facebook post emphasized the worry and sleepless nights that everyone had experienced, empathizing with the puppy’s traumatic journey.

The motives behind George’s actions remain unknown, as reported by USA Today. He now faces charges of cruelty to animals and abandonment of an animal and is scheduled to appear in a Swain County courtroom on September 26, according to WLOS.

Apollo’s story has garnered substantial attention, with many expressing interest in adopting him. However, he will need to spend a few more months at the shelter before he can be neutered, as per WLOS.

The shelter has humorously noted that Apollo may need an agent due to the overwhelming interest in his adoption. For those willing to support PAWS’ mission, donations can be made through their website.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of compassion and responsible pet ownership, as well as the need to address acts of cruelty towards animals.
