Convicted Murderer Escapes Prison, Shot by Homeowner in Garage
In a dramatic turn of events, a convicted murderer made a daring escape from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania on August 31st. The escapee, 34-year-old Brazilian Danelo Cavalcante, is currently on the run. US authorities are now in hot pursuit of the fugitive after he was found stealing a rifle in a homeowner’s garage.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers, including state and local police along with federal agents, have launched a massive manhunt for Cavalcante. Police describe him as “desperate” and “dangerous,” armed with a rifle equipped with a scope and flashlight.
During his escape, Cavalcante snatched a .22-caliber firearm from the property before fleeing. The homeowner, in an attempt to stop him, fired several shots with a pistol in Chester County.
Authorities have established a six-square-mile perimeter around the area where Cavalcante is believed to be hiding. This location is a wooded, hilly terrain. In a bid to evade capture, Cavalcante has discarded a sweatshirt he was seen wearing on CCTV cameras, and now, he is believed to be shirtless, according to the police.
Residents of South Coventry are taking precautions by staying inside their homes, and at least one school district has canceled classes in response to the ongoing search.
Pennsylvania State Police are leading the pursuit in the Philadelphia suburb, approximately 20 miles north of Chester County Prison. Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens has expressed concerns about Cavalcante’s mindset, stating, “We consider him desperate. We consider him dangerous. He is desperate enough to use that weapon.”
Cavalcante’s escape involved a daring sequence of events, including crab-walking up a wall in the recreation yard, scaling razor wire, traversing a roof, and making a daring jump to the ground. The situation remains fluid as law enforcement works tirelessly to bring this fugitive to justice.
