Colorado Man Charged with Cyberstalking Ex, New Boyfriend in Hawaii

Charged: Man Accused of Cyberstalking Ex and New Boyfriend

A man from Colorado is facing federal charges for cyberstalking his ex-girlfriend and her new partner in Hawaii. The accused, John B. Hart, 53, was arrested in his current home of Louisville, Colorado, after previously residing in Hawaii.

Hart is alleged to have engaged in disturbing activities aimed at harassing and intimidating his ex-girlfriend. He reportedly pretended to be another ex-boyfriend, creating fake profiles for her on dating and casual sex websites. Furthermore, he sent individuals to her workplace under false pretenses, causing distress.

Notably, Hart is accused of sending hurtful messages, even telling his ex-girlfriend to harm herself. The situation escalated as he advised her new boyfriend to end the relationship and even sent inappropriate items to his family with her name on the orders.

The indictment highlights a series of incidents from May to August 2022. During this period, Hart targeted himself as well, damaging his car and his ex-girlfriend’s car. He left hazardous spikes nearby and wrongly blamed another ex-boyfriend for these actions.

To conceal his identity, Hart allegedly used fake phone numbers and encrypted emails. These actions prompted charges against him, including three counts of cyberstalking and one count of obstruction of justice.

If found guilty, Hart could face serious consequences. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that each cyberstalking count carries a potential five-year prison sentence, while the obstruction charge could lead to a 20-year sentence.
