Colorado Dentist’s Plea Expected in Fatal Poisoning of Wife

Colorado Dentist Faces First-Degree Murder Charge for Allegedly Poisoning Wife

A shocking case unfolds as a Colorado dentist, James Craig, prepares to enter a plea on Tuesday for a first-degree murder charge. The allegation? Poisoning his wife, Angela Craig, and the mother of their six children in a bid to start a new life with his mistress.

The investigation points to James Craig, 45, as the prime suspect. He’s accused of secretly adding cyanide and arsenic to his wife’s protein shakes, leading to her tragic death on March 18.

Angela Craig, his wife of 23 years, lost her life due to poisoning from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a substance found in common over-the-counter eye drops, according to the coroner’s report.

However, during a July hearing, it was revealed that tests didn’t detect traces of cyanide or arsenic in the bottles used for Angela’s post-workout protein shakes. The method by which tetrahydrozoline, the other toxic substance, was administered remains undisclosed by investigators.

Before the heartbreaking incident, James Craig’s online searches raise suspicion. He had looked up phrases like “is arsenic detectable in an autopsy” and “how to make murder look like a heart attack,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Angela Craig, 43, began experiencing symptoms such as vertigo, shaking, and cold lips in the days leading up to her hospitalization. Despite medical efforts, doctors couldn’t diagnose her condition. Meanwhile, James Craig was allegedly carrying on with his mistress, orthodontist Karin Cain, falsely claiming to be in the midst of a divorce and no longer living with his wife.

Angela Craig’s condition worsened, leading to her being declared brain-dead after suffering a seizure on March 15. She was taken off life support three days later.

The investigation unfolded after a tip from James Craig’s business partner, Ryan Redfearn. He informed the police about a delivery of potassium cyanide to their dental practice, with no legitimate medical purpose. Subsequent detective work revealed that Craig had ordered various poisons, including arsenic and oleandrin. Currently, James Craig is in custody with a $10 million bond.

While James Craig faces a murder charge, details surrounding the case continue to emerge. The motive appears rooted in his financial troubles, as he was struggling with debt and bankruptcy before the alleged crime took place.
