Classes Canceled After Shooting at Bowie State University Homecoming Game
Bowie, MD – Bowie State University has had to cancel classes on Monday after a shooting incident took place following the homecoming game this Saturday.
Police Presence at University
Maryland State Police were already on campus, helping with the homecoming festivities when they received a call about a shooting at 11:45 p.m. The incident occurred near the Center for Business and Graduate Studies on Henry Circle.
Injured Teenagers
Two 19-year-old men were injured in the shooting and promptly taken to the hospital, as reported by FOX 5 DC. The police found one weapon at the scene but suspect there may have been multiple shooters involved.
Historically Black College
Bowie State University, the oldest among Maryland’s historically Black colleges and universities, witnessed this unfortunate incident. It’s a part of a recent wave of violence on college campuses.
Previous Incident at Morgan State University
Just days ago, another incident occurred at Morgan State University in Baltimore, where at least two people opened fire during a dispute, injuring five individuals, including four students.
Safety Concerns
In response to the incident, Bowie State University expressed deep concern regarding the encroachment of gun violence into their safe haven. The university is committed to ensuring the safety of its students.
Non-Student Suspects
Police have confirmed that the suspects in the Saturday night shooting were not students at either Bowie or Morgan State. They are actively pursuing leads in the case.
Recovery Expected
Fortunately, the injured victims are expected to make a full recovery, and no additional injuries were reported. The police have described the shooting as an isolated incident and believe there is no ongoing threat to others on campus.
