Hollywood Actress Christina Ricci Speaks Out on Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ Support for Co-Star Convicted of Rape
In a recent Instagram statement, Hollywood actress Christina Ricci addressed the controversy surrounding Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who had appealed to a judge for leniency in the sentencing of their former co-star, Danny Masterson, who was convicted of rape.
Ricci, best known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the 1991 movie “The Addams Family,” expressed her concerns, stating that it’s essential to acknowledge that even individuals we admire can be predators and abusers. She emphasized that discrediting survivors of abuse is unacceptable.
Kutcher and Kunis, who are married, had written letters to the judge during Masterson’s trial, where he was ultimately sentenced to 30 years in prison for the rape of two women. During the trial, the victims testified that Masterson had provided them with drinks that made them feel light-headed in 2003, leading to their incapacitation and subsequent assault.
Kunis described Masterson as a “role model,” while Kutcher referred to him as “dedicated and loyal” in their letters requesting leniency.
Ricci’s statement reinforced the importance of believing victims and supporting survivors, regardless of the reputation of the accused. She noted that it’s challenging for survivors to come forward and obtain convictions.
Kutcher explained that they had written the character letters at the request of Masterson’s family, aiming to provide insight into the person they had known for 25 years. Their intention was to assist the judge in considering Masterson’s character when determining his sentence.
Kunis clarified that their letters were not meant to challenge the judicial system or the jury’s decision but were solely intended for the judge’s consideration. They expressed regret if their actions had inadvertently retraumatized the victims.
In conclusion, Kutcher and Kunis, along with Ricci, emphasized their support for survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and rape. The controversy highlighted the complexities of addressing allegations against individuals whom others hold in high regard.
Masterson, Kunis, Kutcher, and Ricci were all part of the cast of the sitcom “That ’70s Show,” which aired from 1998 to 2006.
