Chris Rock and Diplo Escape Burning Man Amid Flooding, Shelter Orders

Burning Man Festivalgoers Struggle Amid Unexpected Conditions

Recent heavy rainfall led to unexpected challenges at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. The festival, which attracted attendees like Chris Rock and Diplo, faced flooding, prompting officials to issue a shelter-in-place order.

Well-known personalities, Chris Rock (58) and Diplo (44), found themselves in the midst of the situation, drawing attention on September 2.

Diplo shared on Instagram that they were offered a ride by a fan in a pickup truck, after trekking six miles through muddy conditions. Chris Rock’s main concern was getting a cold drink after the challenging journey.

The flooding emerged after the desert received up to 0.8 inches of rain on September 1 and 2. The rain transformed the ground into thick, clay-like mud, making travel difficult on foot and by vehicle.

Local officials advised attendees to remain where they were and conserve resources. The event’s organizers also urged those planning to attend on Saturday to reconsider due to the conditions.

The Black Rock City gates were closed, allowing only emergency vehicles to enter or exit. Even the airport and other access points were shut down temporarily.

As the situation unfolded, more than 70,000 festivalgoers found themselves stranded, and multiple RV campers became stuck in place, according to Police Officer Nathan Carmichael.

Tragically, one attendee lost their life during the rain event. The incident is currently under investigation, as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
