Chicago Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2016 Home Invasion Killing Five People
A Chicago man, Lionel Parks, has been handed a life sentence for his involvement in a home invasion that resulted in the tragic deaths of five individuals. The sentencing decision was made by a Cook County judge on Thursday, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The incident unfolded in December 2016 at a residence on Chicago’s South Side, where Lionel Parks, aged 35, was found guilty of the killings. The victims included Elijah Jackson, 36, his pregnant sister Shacora Jackson, 40, Shacora Jackson’s daughter Nateyah Hines, 19, and Scott Thompson, 46, all of whom were fatally shot at the scene. A fifth victim, 19-year-old Shakeyah Jackson, succumbed to her injuries more than ten months later as a result of the attack.
During the home invasion, a 22-year-old family member of the victims was also shot but managed to survive by pretending to be deceased. Authorities disclosed that Lionel Parks, along with an armed accomplice, made three visits to Elijah Jackson’s residence in Chicago’s Fernwood neighborhood on December 17, 2016. During their third visit, they forcibly entered the house.
Parks and his partner proceeded to search the home for money and drugs before resorting to violence, ultimately shooting the victims before fleeing the scene. Notably, only Lionel Parks faced charges related to the killings.
This sentencing marks the culmination of a tragic and harrowing case that has seen justice served for the lives lost in the 2016 home invasion.
