Thieves Target Celebrity Jeweler in Daring Heist
Thieves Strike in Florida
Thieves believed to be part of an organized crime group targeted a celebrity jeweler in Florida over the weekend. The daring heist involved disabling the store’s alarm system using a jamming device. According to both police and the store owner, the robbers made off with nearly $500,000 worth of valuables.
A Stealthy Operation
The thieves executed their plan by cutting a hole in the store’s roof and attaching a ladder to an AC unit with a rope. They then descended from the roof, maneuvering inside the attic to place a jammer that disrupted the alarm system’s signal.
Sophisticated Crime Ring
Detectives suspect that this crew is part of a sophisticated criminal organization responsible for at least six similar incidents in South Florida in the past week.
The Missed Detail
Surprisingly, the burglars overlooked a discreetly placed Ring camera in the store, which captured a clear image of one suspect’s face. This crucial piece of evidence could prove vital in solving the case.
Caught on Camera
The footage shows the suspects, dressed in dark clothing and armed with flashlights, systematically looting the store, snatching jewelry from glass cabinets and drawers and stuffing them into a backpack. The stolen items included not only precious stones but also a rare orange Chanel purse valued at $5,000 and a $4,300 bottle of Louis XIII liquor.
Bypassing High-End Security
The store owner expressed astonishment that the thieves managed to disable his state-of-the-art security system with a jamming device. The jammer used resembled a bomb with multiple antennas. It was connected to the alarm system, and the thieves cut all the wires. The owner, Chris Petrillo, was unaware such a breach was possible, as his security system held a UL rating with a UL certificate.
A Costly Loss
Petrillo received an alert from ADT Security Services around 5 a.m., informing him that his system had lost signal. When he checked his Ring camera five hours later, he was shocked to witness the robbery. The estimated loss from the heist stands at nearly half a million dollars.
Ongoing Investigation
The Hollywood Police Department is actively investigating the incident, aiming to bring the culprits to justice.
