California Mall Mandates ID Lanyards for Solo Teens Post Brawl

Unaccompanied Minors at Southern California Mall to Wear Identification Tags After Weekend Brawl

In the aftermath of a disruptive brawl over the weekend, the Moreno Valley Mall in Southern California has taken the step to require unaccompanied minors to wear identification tags as they visit. This decision comes as a response to a chaotic scene that unfolded when a considerable crowd descended on the mall seeking discounted movie tickets.

On Sunday, multiple fights erupted at the mall, with hundreds of patrons present due to a special offer of $4 movie tickets by the theater, coinciding with National Cinema Day. According to FOX Los Angeles, the situation escalated to a point where law enforcement had to be called to assist the mall’s security in quelling the disturbances. However, it’s important to note that no weapons were involved in the clashes, as confirmed by the mall management.

The mall’s management issued a statement in the wake of the events, emphasizing the role of their security team while underlining that they are not a substitute for proper parental supervision. The statement conveyed the message that it’s the responsibility of parents to teach their children respect for others and appropriate behavior in public spaces.

Acknowledging the need for a reconsideration of their policies regarding unattended minors, the mall is introducing a new requirement. Unaccompanied minors in the mall after 5 p.m. on weekdays or at any time on weekends will now be expected to wear lanyards displaying their names and their parents’ contact information. This measure aims to enhance accountability and transparency for young visitors.

As of now, it’s not confirmed when this rule will be put into effect. FOX News Digital has reached out to the mall management, International Growth Properties, for further details.

On the same night as the initial incident, another altercation unfolded at the Del Amo Shopping Center in Torrance. Video footage captured the disturbing scene of young individuals physically engaging with each other. Although some teenagers received citations, no arrests were made in connection with the disturbance, according to reports.

This development underscores the mall’s effort to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all patrons and reflects a broader concern regarding the conduct of unaccompanied minors in public spaces.
