Brazen Connecticut bear sneaks in cracked window, helps himself to frozen chicken

Bear’s Chicken Caper Caught on Camera in Connecticut

In an unexpected and slightly comical turn of events, a sizable black bear recently decided to explore a Connecticut home, making away with a frozen chicken. The incident, captured on homeowner Helena Houlis’ Ring security camera, unfolded in Barkhamsted, Connecticut on October 11.

The bear’s antics were all caught on video as it boldly roamed through Houlis’ residence. Initially, it was found strolling in the front hallway. However, its adventure took an interesting turn as it followed its nose into the kitchen, where it displayed a surprising level of culinary expertise by opening the freezer door with its paws.

With a keen sense of smell, the bear decided to make itself a snack by rummaging through the freezer, ultimately settling on a frozen chicken.

In a swift move, the bear leaped towards a nearby partially open window and vanished into the woods, clutching its prized poultry possession.

Remarkably, Houlis wasn’t at home when this unusual break-in occurred. Her phone alerted her to the presence of an uninvited guest inside her residence. According to her, the crafty bear entered through a cracked window.

Although the bear’s visit didn’t result in significant damage, it left behind some remnants of its adventure. A bag of dog food was raided, leaving scattered trails of kibble throughout the house, along with a generous sprinkling of bear fur.

Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) informs us that black bears possess highly sensitive senses of smell and hearing. They can detect even the faintest scent of food, sometimes leading them to campsites and residential areas.

This quirky encounter is a reminder that wildlife can sometimes take a detour through our daily lives, offering moments of amusement and surprise.
