Brave Boy Saves Toddler Brother from Dog Attack
Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire – In a remarkable display of courage, a young boy risked his safety to protect his toddler brother from a dog attack. Caio Lewis, 10, found himself in a critical situation while playing with his two-year-old brother Jac in their father’s front garden on a recent Saturday evening.
As the two brothers played, a French bulldog suddenly charged into the garden. Recognizing the potential danger, Caio swiftly moved to shield his little brother from harm’s way.
According to Caio’s mother, Lara Poyer of Llanelli, “The boys were playing at their dad’s house when the dog ran straight for Jac. Caio noticed the dog heading towards Jac and immediately intervened, pushing him out of harm’s reach. Unfortunately, in the process, the dog bit Caio on his thigh.”
Lara wasted no time and rushed Caio to Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. After a wait of several hours, Caio received treatment, including a dressing for the wound and a six-day course of antibiotics. Thankfully, his injuries were not more severe, considering his smaller size compared to his brother.
Lara expressed her pride in her son’s actions, stating, “He’s a bit sore but he’s doing well. We’re very proud of him – he showed a lot of sense and bravery to jump in front of Jac. The dog owner has been very apologetic about what happened. I don’t want the dog to be destroyed because it’s a rescue dog and it’s obviously had a difficult upbringing previously.”
Lara acknowledged that the situation could have been much worse if Caio had not acted quickly. “The area where the dog bit Caio was the same height as his brother’s head due to Jac’s small size, so the outcome could have been far more severe.”
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are currently investigating the matter. The incident highlights the importance of swift action in preventing potential harm, as demonstrated by young Caio Lewis’s heroic intervention.
