Sabrina Carpenter: Unleashing Playful Creativity in her Music
Sabrina Carpenter is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her unique musical outros. The singer recently delved into the inspiration behind these freestyle quips, shedding light on the creative process.
Speaking with Billboard on August 28, the 24-year-old Carpenter candidly shared, “I’m not going to lie, I’ve made a lot of provocative jokes and … I talk a big talk. The outros are partially inspired by real-life and partially like it’s just the more outrageous, sometimes the more fun it is.”
In her song “Nonsense,” the album version wraps up with Carpenter singing, “Woke up this morning thought I’d write a pop hit / How quickly can you take your clothes off, pop quiz,” followed by playful giggles about the outro not making it to the official record.
But during her live performances, Carpenter extends the song, adding improvised lyrics that often draw inspiration from the city she’s performing in.
Rising Above Gossip: Carpenter’s Love Life
Carpenter has managed to keep her dating history under wraps, but that hasn’t spared her from romantic rumors. In August 2020, she sparked speculation after being seen out to lunch with Joshua Bassett in Los Angeles. This rumored romance caught attention, considering Bassett’s ties with Olivia Rodrigo.
Last year, Carpenter took TikTok by storm with her racy lyrics during her Emails I Can’t Send world tour. At her Los Angeles show in October 2022, she playfully sang, “I’ve got a great personality but no tits,” adding, “This song is not about Joshua Bassett / Los Angeles your energy is big d–k.”
From Viral Moments to Center Stage
Carpenter made headlines again in May with a cheeky birthday request amidst rumors of a connection with Shawn Mendes. Rather than singing, she playfully asked her fans to read her lips as she mouthed, “d—k please.” Carpenter later confirmed that she was indeed serious about her request.
After wrapping up her solo tour, Carpenter joined Taylor Swift for the Latin American leg of the Eras Tour, beginning in Mexico City on August 24. Expressing her admiration, Carpenter told Billboard, “Taylor is one of my main inspirations, ever since I was a little girl. And now to just be able to watch that whole show every night is going to be so special and I feel so lucky that we get to go to all those places we get to go with her.”
As she takes the stage for the Eras Tour as Swift’s opening act, Carpenter continues to deliver her iconic outros. During her Mexico City performance, she playfully sang, “I only date him if he pays mi rente / If you are a Swiftie, you’re mi gente / Let me hear you make some noise, DF,” embracing the city’s nickname.
Carpenter’s journey is a testament to her unique creativity and ability to captivate audiences worldwide with her music and stage presence.
