Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Step Down from Thorn’s Board After Backlash
In a significant development, Ashton Kutcher, co-founder of Thorn, an organization dedicated to combating child sex abuse, has announced his resignation as chairman of the board. His wife, Mila Kunis, who held the role of an observer on Thorn’s board, is also stepping down, according to a report by Time magazine.
The decision to resign follows a wave of criticism directed at Kutcher and Kunis for their letters of support for their former “That ’70s Show” co-star, Danny Masterson. Masterson was recently convicted of sexually assaulting two women.
In a letter addressed to the organization, Ashton Kutcher acknowledged that the letters he and his wife wrote in support of Masterson were a “judgmental error.” He expressed remorse for his actions and the impact they had on survivors of sexual abuse, acknowledging the historical silencing of such victims.
Kutcher stated, “Victims of sexual abuse have been historically silenced, and the character statement I submitted is yet another painful instance of questioning the courage of those who come forward to share their experiences.”
After taking time for personal reflection and engaging in conversations with survivors, as well as Thorn’s employees and leadership, Kutcher has chosen to resign from his position as chairman of the board, effective immediately.
This decision marks a significant development in the ongoing discussions surrounding support for survivors of sexual abuse and raises questions about the responsibilities and actions of public figures in such matters.
