Attempted Murder in Leisure Centre Car Park – Motivated by Misguided Beliefs
In a shocking incident that unfolded on March 9 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, a man’s disturbing actions have come to light. The victim, a woman, was seated in her car when she was brutally attacked. Her assailant believed she was affiliated with GCHQ, prompting the vicious assault.
The severity of the attack led to the victim being rushed to the hospital with grave injuries. Among the wounds sustained were a stab wound to her abdomen that reached her liver, along with injuries to her leg and chest.
Joshua Bowles, a 29-year-old individual, was charged by detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) in connection with the incident. He has admitted guilt for attempting to murder the woman. Additionally, Bowles faces an accusation of assaulting another man, causing bodily harm.
Police were swiftly dispatched to Tommy Taylor’s Lane, situated just a few miles away from GCHQ’s headquarters, at approximately 9:15 PM. Bowles, armed with two knives, had positioned himself outside the leisure centre, waiting for his target. The woman, referred to in charges as “99230,” became his focus due to his belief that she was associated with GCHQ and embodied his perception of the state.
During this disturbing incident, Bowles also assaulted Alex Fuentes when confronted in the leisure centre’s parking lot. After his arrest, Bowles admitted to law enforcement that his intention had been to target the woman, driven by his misguided belief about her connection to GCHQ. He expressed disagreement with their conduct and cited mental health issues as a factor.
