Arkansas State Parks shared the exciting news on social media. Aspen and her family were at Pike County’s Crater of Diamonds State Park to mark her special day. As they explored the park’s northern search area, something extraordinary caught Aspen’s eye—a dazzling 2.95-carat golden brown diamond.
A Remarkable Discovery
To put this into perspective, Aspen’s discovery is the second-largest brown diamond found at the park this year. Back in March, someone uncovered a slightly larger 3.29-carat brown diamond.
A Park for Diamond Hunters
Crater of Diamonds State Park is unique because it allows the public to search for real diamonds, and they have a “finders-keepers” policy. Visitors get 37.5 acres of land to scour for diamonds on the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic crater loaded with these precious gems.
A History of Sparkling Finds
While Aspen’s find is incredible, the largest diamond ever discovered in the park weighed a jaw-dropping 16.37 carats. This gem was found shortly after the park became a state park in 1972.
In total, the park has seen more than 35,000 diamonds unearthed by visitors. It’s one of the very few places worldwide where ordinary folks can try their luck at finding these valuable stones.
